Development of training capacities at the Bordeaux Imaging Center – Signature of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Cajal Advanced Neuroscience Training Programme

The Bordeaux Imaging Center (BIC), part of the national infrastructure France-BioImaging, offers access, training and Research & Development on a wide spectrum of instruments and methods for cellular imaging. It is open to all scientists, from the academic or private sector. The BIC has been engaged for many years in active training programmes for imaging at all levels (beginners to advanced training) for local, national and transnational users. The BIC personnel also participates extensively in various theoretical and hands-on training/showcase activities in France and abroad (MifoBio, NeuBias, etc.).
Within the strategy to develop BIC training opportunities, and participate in the national training portfolio initiative coordinated by the national research infrastructure France BioImaging, the BIC has built a partnership with the Cajal Advanced Neuroscience Training Programme to develop special imaging training for Neuroscience. The Cajal Training Programme is an initiative from FENS and IBRO in partnership with Bordeaux Neurocampus, the Champalimaud Foundation and The Gatsby Charitable Foundation, which offers state-of-the-art hands-on training courses in neuroscience.
A 3-year agreement recently signed with the Cajal Advanced Neuroscience Training Programme formally establishes this partnership. This MOU lays the foundation to support training courses under the Cajal Programme that will take place during the years 2018, 2019 and 2020 at the Bordeaux School of Neuroscience, a research laboratory of Bordeaux Neurocampus fully dedicated to training activities.
One of the highlights of this agreement is the organisation of the upcoming “Advanced imaging methods for cellular neuroscience” course that will take place from 10-28 September 2018 in Bordeaux.
This advanced course will allow the students to obtain hands-on experience with innovative techniques expected to be central in cellular neuroscience in the coming decade. These techniques focus on the study of cell proliferation and migration, axonal growth, cellular trafficking, synaptogenesis as well as mature cell function, in particular synaptic transmission and plasticity. The course and its participants will greatly benefit from the infrastructure provided by the Bordeaux Imaging Center.

Finally, this course will emphasize how new techniques can address specific biological issues and lead to new concepts and discoveries in cellular neuroscience.
